THE SPACE FEW HAVE DARED TO EXPLORE

COME WITH US

TO DISCOVER THE
OCEAN UNKNOWN

We are a team of scientists, explorers and filmmakers driven to discover what lies beneath. Our mission is to document the untold stories of the ocean, share them with the world, and let the wonders of our most precious ecosystem inspire people globally to connect with the ocean.

How we Work

FEARLESS
SCIENCE

Our research focus is marine exploration and biological discovery in the most inaccessible corners of the sea. We partner with scientists eager to push the boundaries of research in their field—be it locating new species or studying never-before-seen biological events—and we give them the tools they need to get the job done.

NEXT-GEN
PLATFORM

Everything we do is made possible by our state-of-the-art research vessel, the MV Alucia. Equipped with two manned subs that can take researchers 1,000 meters deep, a fleet of support ships, an onboard helicopter, and fully equipped science labs, the Alucia can bring back discoveries and stories no one has ever seen before.

CAPTIVATING
STORIES

Using advanced underwater filmmaking tools, we document each moment of discovery—and then transform those moments into compelling stories we share with the world. From TV series to museum exhibits to virtual reality, we reach our audience wherever they are, to inspire in them the same love of the oceans that inspires us.

INTERNATIONAL TV SERIES

BLUE PLANET II

Four episodes feature footage from MV Alucia missions.

Blue Planet II is an award-winning TV series, produced by BBC Earth, that documents the fascinating stories of the sea. Narrated by Sir David Attenborough, and released to international acclaim in late 2017, its worldwide reach and popularity have eclipsed even its landmark predecessor, Blue Planet.

GIANT SCREEN FILM

OCEANS: OUR BLUE PLANET

Co-produced by OceanX Media and BBC Earth.

Oceans: Our Blue Planet is a giant-screen film that takes audiences on a global exploration of the sea, revealing the untold stories of the ocean’s most alien habitats and intriguing creatures. Narrated by Academy Award-winning actress Kate Winslet, the film will be seen in science centers and museums nationwide.

EXPEDITIONS

A sampling of our missions.

mv_alucia_logo_midnight

A ship in pursuit of science.

The flagship of the OceanX fleet is the MV Alucia, arguably the most sophisticated ocean research vessel ever built. Its two manned subs can take research teams to depths of 1,000 meters, where few have gone before. Fully equipped wet and dry laboratories allow scientists to conduct time-sensitive research at the moment of discovery. And its onboard helicopter, support boats, drones and other state-of-the-art equipment bring even the most challenging exploration goals within reach.

OceanX puts this one-of-a-kind research platform at the service of science. We seek out scientists who are looking to do innovative ocean research that simply wouldn’t be possible without the unique capabilities of the Alucia and the expertise of her crew. And to achieve their research goals, we will take them, quite literally, to the ends of the earth.

The heart of OceanX is our Alucia Productions unit, soon to be renamed OceanX Media.

Making discoveries is not enough. Our ultimate mission is to document those discoveries and share them in compelling ways with as many people as we can reach. To that end, the Alucia is equipped with next-generation camera technologies capable of capturing 8K footage as deep as 1,000 meters. We also have powerful onboard video-editing suites that can decode and edit that footage at sea—so we can be sure we got the shot.

We distribute our stories worldwide through leading broadcasters, educational organizations and other partners. Our footage takes many forms: TV series, giant-screen films, museum exhibitions, online video, and even virtual reality.

Our goal is to reach our audience wherever they may be, and to spark within them an appreciation for the ocean and an understanding of its importance. Only by doing this, by bringing the wonders of the ocean into our daily lives, can we hope to have an impact on the future health of our ocean ecosystem and the planet that depends on it for survival.
