Into the Ocean: Journey Beneath

The ocean sustains life on Earth, yet much of it remains unseen. As environmental change accelerates, understanding it has never been more urgent.

Into the Ocean: Journey Beneath, a collaboration between ArtScience Museum and OceanX, invites visitors below the surface through a powerful blend of science, storytelling, and art.

Grounded in real OceanX expeditions, the experience brings ocean science to life through the voices of scientists, artists, and local communities—turning knowledge into connection.

At its core is a simple idea: the more we understand the ocean, the better we can protect it—for a future where both people and planet thrive.

Take a plunge through the water column

Discover the layers of the ocean when you visit Into the Ocean: Journey Beneath

The Surface

The ocean’s story begins at the surface—where every expedition starts. From there, our submersible descends through the water column, revealing a deeper, unseen world below.

The Photic Zone

The photic zone—stretching up to 200 meters below the surface—is the ocean’s sunlit layer where life begins.

The Twilight Zone

Despite its darkness, this layer is alive with activity. Each night, countless organisms migrate upward to feed near the surface, returning to the depths by day.

The Aphotic Zone

Where sunlight disappears, the aphotic zone is a world of perpetual darkness, crushing pressure, and near-freezing temperatures.
