COMPELLING
STORYTELLING

We go where others have not to tell stories that have never been told.

It’s not enough to return from our journeys with important research results. We come back prepared to share stories that energize people—and inspire them to think, discuss, and act on behalf of the world’s oceans and the global community that relies on the oceans for so much.

Critical to our mission is documenting our exploration with compelling and stunning video. Our team includes accomplished directors, cinematographers, editors, sound designers, audio engineers and composers. We shoot with the world’s most advanced underwater cameras, capturing 8K footage as deep as 1,000 meters. And we don’t wait until we’re back: the team in our editing suites on the Alucia begins working while we are at sea, sharing content as we have it.

Of course, in this digital age, different audiences consume media in different ways—and we will reach them all. Working with production, broadcasting, and digital partners, we share our content through TV shows, giant-screen films, and digital and social channels. Our goal is to reach the widest possible audience with the most appropriate content, so that they’re swept away by the ocean whenever and wherever they engage.

Mark Dalio

Founder and Creative Director

Mark Dalio is the Founder and Creative Director of Alucia Productions, a production company with the mission to create world-class media that educates and inspires people to connect to the oceans.

His vision for this company is to use vivid cinematography and digital media to tell the compelling stories of scientific discoveries and exploration on the vessel, Alucia, as it moves around the world. His inspiration for this vision began in 2012, when Alucia documented the first ever footage of the Giant Squid. The images of this significant ocean discovery captured the attention of audiences around the world, which Mark felt fully demonstrated the ship’s unique power to capture ground breaking ocean media. Since founding Alucia Productions, Mark has featured the work of Alucia in the PBS’ Nova Special Creatures of Light, David Attenborough's show Great Barrier Reef and BBC’s landmark series Oceans.
